— Darrick Lin (@DarrickLin) September 14, 2017
Carry-Ons are free of charge. Passengers are allowed to carry with them one personal item, like a shoulder bag, and one carry-on bag. The maximum size of a carry-on bag (with the wheel and handle) is 22 x 14 x 9 inches or 56 x 36 x 23 cm. However, basic economy customers are only allowed to carry one personal item and must check in all other bags.
In regards to checked bags, fees vary depending on location. The first bag will cost around $25, while the second bag will cost between $35-$100. Always look for specials, as there are also some cases wherein American Airlines offers up to three complimentary checked baggage.
2. What Are the Allowable Baggage Size and Weight Limits?
When traveling to most regions, a checked baggage must not exceed 62 inches or 158 cm in dimension. Additionally, the weight can’t exceed a maximum of 50 lbs or 23 kgs. However, for first class or business class passengers, as well as those traveling to Brazil, the weight limit is 70 lbs or 32 kgs.
3. What Is the Biggest Bag You Can Check on a Plane?
American Airlines does not accept checked baggage exceeding 126 inches or 320 cm. The airline also charges a fee of $150 to $200 for baggage larger than 62 inches or 158 cm. Fees vary among regions.
4. How Much Are Overweight American Airline Baggage Fees?
Overweight baggage fees also vary among regions. For baggage weighing 51 lbs or 23 kgs up to 70 lbs or 32 kgs, the cost is $100. However, this does not apply to first and business class passengers, as they are allowed to check in baggage up to 70 lbs or 32 kgs at no additional cost.
As for baggage weighing 71 lbs or 32 kgs up to 100 lbs or 45 kgs, overweight baggage fees range from $200 up to $450, depending on the region. American Airlines does not accept checked bags exceeding 100 lbs or 45 kgs.
5. Can You Pay Baggage Fees Online?
