Business travelers are troubled with today’s trying times. They’re used to hopping off and on flights for work. Common reasons for business travel include new business ventures and closing deals. Others include personal meetings and the chance of better rapport between the parties involved.
Business Travelers Feel Uncomfortable with Travels
Travel managers are facing new sets of challenges as global risks––whether terror, climate, or health-related––seem to be increasing year after year.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, such events are affecting the ways business travelers themselves feel about their travel experiences. A 2016 survey from the Association of Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE) and Business Traveller found that two out of three travelers agree that there is a psychological effect on either them or their families when traveling to a region where they may not feel safe. The survey also found that 56 percent of business travelers were moderately to severely anxious about a terrorism threat during business travel, while 58 percent were more anxious than they were the previous year.
Nowadays, it’s as if every day is a news-worthy day. There are numerous happenings in different parts of the world. Travelers, particularly business travelers, continue to feel nervous at the growing number of unfortunate events. There’s practically a new country in the headline every week.

Business travelers were once thought to lead glamorous lives. They usually fly business or first class. They look impeccable in their smart attire. However, it may seem as if their job isn’t as glamorous as before.
Now, there is a prime importance put on their safety and security. Most business travelers flag terrorism as their #1 cause for concern. They want to feel safe, especially with their regular travels. This feeling of security goes beyond their flight. It also takes into consideration their trip’s duration and destination.
Many travel companies place their clients’ safety as a priority. They study various risk management concerns. These help their clients feel at ease. Some travel managers are even amenable at spending 10-25% of the hotel cap rate. These additional expenses are agreeable as long as their travelers’ safety is prioritized.
In addition to this, travel managers provide their travelers with extra measures prior to their trip. They not only inform travelers about policies and procedures, but they also give them the right technological tools and precautions. All these help reduce their clients’ anxieties.
Much has been said about business travelers and their jet-setting lifestyle. However, this doesn’t mean they’re exempt from any potential situations.
The key is for business travelers to be as safe as possible. One option is to reduce business travels. After all, it’s easier and less costly to get on a Google Hangout or a Skype call as opposed to flying to another country.
