Figure Out How to Get There
Napa Valley in California is just about 40 miles south of Sacramento and around 50 miles north of San Francisco. How you get there depends on where you are coming from and how long you want to travel. There are several nearby airports if you want to fly, each is about an hour drive from the wine country. From there, you could rent a car to get you around.
Find the Perfect Place to Stay
Napa Valley is made for lovers, so there are lots of nice places to stay for couples. Don’t pick a big hotel because that’s just boring. When you take a vacation in Napa, look for someplace that has small, romantic cabins or cottages. If you can find ones that overlook the vineyards, that’s a bonus.
You could also choose a small boutique hotel or a bed and breakfast. If you do want something big, there are resorts and spas so you can enjoy couples massages and other luxuries and still see the sites in Napa Valley. A number of spas offer hot springs and volcanic mud baths for two.
Things to Do in Wine Country
Once you figure out where to stay, the next step is to decide what you want to do while you are there. You probably want to enjoy some wine tastings at the wineries in Napa Valley. You might take a ride to see St. Helena, a small town that has many fine wineries to tour. You can ride hot air balloons over the vineyards or take a cycling tour of the area, too.
There are other things to do in the area besides just drink wine, though. Wine country is in the Bay area of California. You and your partner might spend a day at Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco or drive across the Golden Gate Bridge. If you want to have a picnic, you could stop in Central Park in Fremont or sit in the Old Courthouse Square in Santa Rosa. How about going for the thrills at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo?
For some good food, you can make a reservation at one of the fine restaurants in the area and even visit The Culinary Institute of America at Greystone.
What About the Wine
Of course, you did pick Napa Valley for your romantic vacation spot, so it’s safe to say you want to drink some wine. Start by making a list of the wineries you want to visit. The bigger ones like Mondavi or Beringer will usually let you tour for a small fee.
The small family-run vineyards and wineries are nice to see but you might want to call them first. They can require reservations for tours and tastings. While you are in the area, book a ride on the Napa Valley Wine Train for dinner and some excitement.
