Creating a travel packing checklist helps reduce stress before your big trips. You won’t forget anything important in your carry-on or luggage, you’ll have an inventory of all the things you’ve packed, and you’ll be able to keep emergency airport purchases to a minimum. So, what specific items do you need to bring to guarantee a hassle-free trip? Check out the travel packing list below!
Travel Packing Checklist | The Essentials You Need
1. Medicine Kit and Toiletries
Whether you have allergies or are prone to injury, traveling can get you into trouble. This kit will come in handy, not just for emergency situations but also, for times you go to the local pharmacy and find out they don’t have what you need. You need a first-aid kit that includes all the usual medicine and antibiotics you take, plus anything the doctor has prescribed for you to bring.
It’s a good idea to pack, within your carry-on bag, a toiletry bag with hand sanitizer, your contact lenses, insect repellent, a water bottle, ear plugs, dental floss, and lip balm. You can store these in Ziploc bags, especially for liquids, to keep from spilling.
Different countries mean different electrical socket shapes, sizes, and voltages. You have to be prepared and do your research. If you can’t find your destination country’s adapter, one good idea is to buy a universal adapter that fits UK, US, and Asia electrical socket sizes. You’re basically good to go from there.
3. Power Bank
Speaking of adapters, remember to also pack a power bank in your carry-on luggage for your gadgets that easily run out of juice. We’re talking about your phones, tablets, and cameras. Power banks are essential, so you can charge these gadgets when you can find a socket to plug into. Just remember to charge them before you go.
4. Travel Documents
Make it a point to bring all the travel documents required to avoid inconvenience at the airport. As a tip, bring plastic bags with all the important documents, like your passport, visa, boarding passes, and international IDs. Make sure you have an emergency bag for your money. Don’t forget to pack your traveler’s checks and your credit cards. With this strategy, you can easily bring them out of your bag at a moment’s notice.
5. Jacket or Scarf
While a jacket or scarf may take up some space in your bag, they’re worth bringing for practical and aesthetic purposes. With unpredictable weather and frequently freezing planes, extra layers are necessary. And of course, if you need to amp up your look, add a scarf. Packing long-sleeved shirts may be useful. If you’re going to a rainy area, don’t forget your rain jacket. On the contrary, when you’re traveling to a warm country, don’t forget to pack your swimsuit and flip flops.
6. Travel Apps

Technology is your friend! Install apps that will make your trips more convenient, like Uber, Airbnb, Skyscanner, and Google Maps. If you don’t speak the local language of the country you’re visiting, a quick Google Translate will also come in handy.
7. Books or Magazines
Waiting in airports, unless you’re in one of the most entertaining airports in the world, can be boring. That’s why you should always bring a book or a magazine in your backpack to keep yourself productive and entertained, regardless of delays or lines. If you want to save on space, bring a kindle with you, or download a PDF version in your tablet or phone.
